Quiet Your Baby By Learning The Difference Between His or Her Cries
“What a precious little angel!” your mother-in-law will exclaim. “How could you not just kiss that little face?” But to be honest, you have found living with a newborn is far from perfect. While sweet and adorable to everyone else, babies are a major challenge for the people who actually live with them: the parents. The constant crying, fussing, and neediness all point to one simple fact. Babies are extremely demanding. Perhaps swaddling blankets will help, but you are too tired to be sure. What can you do to cope?
As difficult as it may be, you must try to increase your patience as much as possible. Babyhood sometimes seems like it will never end, but your little one will eventually grow up. Do your best to get to know your baby’s personality, so that you can tell what he or she needs. Being able to tell the difference between your baby’s different types of cries will help you calm him or her much more quickly. This may take a while to pinpoint, but it is worth the effort. Next time your baby cries, try a few different things and make note of what works.
When it comes to interpreting their baby’s communication attempts, mothers tend to be the experts. All sexism aside, mothers do seem to have a special intuition with their babies. This is the benefit of having both a father and a mother! It is a great idea for women to involve their husbands in calming baby by sharing what they have learned about the meaning of baby’s cries. Communicate with your husband when you learn some things that work for soothing your infant; he may begin to feel more confident when he has some tricks up his sleeve for calming baby. If any of your blankets for babies seem to help at all, make sure your husband knows how to use it. Now if your mother-in-law visits and intones, “Look at that perfect little baby!” you and your husband can share a smile, and agree.
